SANDY, UT – At halftime of Real Salt Lake (RSL) vs. Sporting Kansas City on Sept. 13th, 2025, WCF Insurance will proudly present the 2025 “Father of the Year” award. Fans will also participate in the annual Teddy Bear Toss, tossing thousands of stuffed bears onto the field. All toys will be donated to Primary Children’s Hospital and other local organizations, spreading comfort to children across the community.
This year’s Father of the Year award will be presented to Freddy Galvez, a devoted father whose story is one of resilience, growth, and unwavering love. After losing his wife unexpectedly, Freddy found himself raising his children alone, navigating grief, and learning how to care for his family from the ground up. Despite the challenges, he sought therapy, rebuilt family traditions, and became a source of strength and joy for his children. His journey is a powerful reminder of the strength found in everyday fatherhood.
“This event is a meaningful way for both WCF and RSL to celebrate the everyday heroes in our community,” said Matt Lyon, CEO and President of WCF Insurance. “We’re honored to share Freddy’s story and give back through the Teddy Bear Toss tradition.”
In addition to Freddy Galvez, WCF will privately recognize two exemplary fathers: Jose Garcia and Luis Manuel Alvarez, whose stories also reflect dedication and love within their families.
“RSL is proud to stand alongside WCF to celebrate the incredible fathers in our community,” said John Kimball, President of RSL and UT Royals. “Events like this reflect the shared values we hold and the impact we can make together.”
